The cheating scandal surrounding the stars of the “Twilight” series has produced some interesting, to say the least, reactions among die-hard fans and haters alike.
It was first reported Tuesday that actress Kristen Stewart, most famous for playing Bella Swan in the “Twilight” films, was photographed kissing 41-year-old Rupert Sanders, the director of Stewart’s latest film, “Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Though she had never publicly admitted to having a romantic relationship with “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson, photos and hints dropped by the couple have always kept media and fans speculating.
This changed on Wednesday when Stewart released a statement apologizing for the affair with Sanders after the news and pictures were published.
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry,” Stewart said in her statement.
Sanders, who is married with two children to model Liberty Ross, also released a statement expressing his apologies. In a strange twist, Ross plays a minor character in the “Snow White” film as Stewart’s mother.
“I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family,” Sanders said in a statement. “My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
While opinions regarding the quality of the movies, actors, and actresses in question vary widely among our generation – what some call the best and worst acting in history – it is clear this scandal has struck a chord with people. One YouTuber, known as “Nutty Madam,” posted a video of herself crying and screaming at Stewart in a “Leave Britney Alone”-esque video of heartfelt, but somewhat violent, emotion.
“She’s saying that she’s sorry like she thinks it’s OK ... But her releasing that statement it’s like saying, “Hello world! Come on in!’ It’s like saying it doesn’t matter,” the young woman sobs. “I don’t understand. How she could do this? Why? Why would you cheat on Robert Pattinson? What’s the point of that? What do you stand to achieve by cheating on Robert Pattinson? ... I’ve never been Kristen’s number one fan but this is just one step too far.”
As of Sunday evening, the video had nearly 2 million views. 3,006 likes. 16,304 dislikes.
