Last night I attended PUB ART SCHOOL. Art that takes place in a pub and I really enjoyed it. It has been years since I have held a paintbrush in my hand and let my imagination run free which was very relaxing and therapeutic. I love art, I have always loved art and considered taking a degree in this discipline. However I talked myself out of it because I compared my style to the very talented Esther Tang, whose creations made my work look like child’s play. I rated her work whilst silently destroying my own unique ability. How many of us have done that eh? I did a degree in performing arts instead and whilst I do not regret this decision, I acknowledge that I am a visual creative person and this side of me gets no attention at the moment.
I love abstract art and you can clearly see the influence of this in my school work.

Now I just tend to doodle.
I have been thinking of doing art classes since I painted a masterpiece with my beautiful 2 year old God Daughter Izabella-Rose for her bedroom last year (Her contribution is on the top right side of the picture),
however the prices have been extortionate and therefore off putting. PUB ART SCHOOL was recommended to me by Zena Tutti of Phenonmenal Healthstyle . Founder Shirley Nette Williams came up with this idea after constantly hearing people express their wish to be more creative but talked themselves out of it with numerous excuses such as lack of time, not knowing where to go or as Shirley expressed “simply scared, because they believe they haven’t been creative since childhood”.
The Hanbury Arms pub is where it took place this week. The feel is rustic, vintage and welcoming. The kind of place that I would love to go to on a Sunday with a good book and cold glass of Rose. As I came straight from work, I shared a vegetarian platter with a friend, which was fabulous in price and taste. I should have taken a picture but…well it was too delicious to pause in order to find the camera. So you will just have to take my word for it or try for yourself if this blog has convinced you to go.
Although this is an art class, Shirley does not teach, but shows you the various methods available to use. You are free to express and do what you want. Last night upon an old farmhouse table, we used paint and print techniques with different textures whilst chatting. It reminded me of the cooking programme Come Dine with Me; new people, personalities, creativity and style, without the food.
I created these three pictures yesterday…
My creations (Nice ring to it lol)
" Love is there, it's just hiding behind the crap"
"Love is Everything, everywhere"
"The Forest"
…and signed them before leaving in the hope that one day they will be worth something? Why? Art is subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so lets hope that an art critic loves this lol. If Tracy Emin can get away with it, why can’t I and everyone else? What makes art valuable? Is a question I will ponder another day.
I would definitely recommend you try this way of being creative. I walked out feeling relaxed, inspired and childlike, as I purposely left with pink, green and blue dried paint on my hands.
Try something new, you may just like it!
