Dating in the 21st Century: Part1

My last relationship was two years ago. I can’t tell you the last time I met someone new or went on a date. Please don’t say “Ahhhh” because this situation called singledom is self inflicted. The truth is I haven’t felt bothered to look or make an effort, I have however been open to fineness, if fineness happens to cross my path. The only path that has shown up is  Speed Dating and the wise words of  Paul Carrick Brunson . Cleary Mr Fine, is stuck in a traffic, in hiding or is relaxing someone telepathically telling me “Your husband awaits. Patience my darling is a virtue”.  Faith is a funny old thing and because I believe in it, the latter scenario is probably true.

The paradox however lies in the fact that singledom is harder in winter and winter people, is coming. Do not get it twisted, the same kind of standards apply all year round and do not drop for this season...I am merely just acknowledging a fact, do I get an Amen?
This is cool and sad at the same time
This week I met two guys in two very different circumstances. The first guy, who I will call Mr A to protect his identity, was introduced to me via a friend. She sold him well to me and vice versa and we met this week. Prior to the meeting we exchanged a few emails which centred on availability and location with a little humorous flair added. This was to be our first blind dates.  A situation like this involves trust, trust that the match maker got the equations of personalities correct.

When I walked into the bar, Mr A was already there waiting in the best seat in the house. As we greeted each other, it was like we were long time friends. Nerves must have taken a day off that night, because they weren’t with me. 15 minutes in and he had already clocked up 4 gold stars, the location, seating area, greeting and wine choice. Fast forward; I find intelligent men sexy, I love openness, debate and transparency. If I cannot look into a man’s eyes and see more...there is a problem. Mr A is a lovely, genuine, kind hearted soul. As he walked me to the station and we said our goodbyes, I clocked up that he accumulated at least 10 Gold stars. Do not ask me where this gold star system has come from, perhaps Super Mario overdose when I was younger has a lot to answer for.
Anyway I view this as a nice way to focus on the good points.  Future dates who read this... I hope it doesn’t put you off.

The next day, after work I went to an event and as soon as I walked in I was drawn to Mr B,  I cannot tell you what it was but you know when your friend is talking to you and you end up acting like your listening because you cannot focus, because you are aware someone is watching you? Well that is what I was doing (Sorry Akua) In hindsight, that must have looked ridiculous, oh well. So after the event I was trying to look out for him without being bait, he was doing the same thing because we caught each other’s eye “Where have I seen you before” he mouthed. I am bad at lip reading so I had no choice but to go over and say... “Huh?”. Who does that? Of all the words, why couldn’t I have elegantly said “Sorry, what did you say?” No that’s just too easy. Clearly he had never seen my face before but that little chat up line is better than “PPPSSSSHHH PSSSSSHHHHH” “Ay what’s your name” or “HEY! However to be fair to the men that do approach me, “Hey Miss” is the usual greeting, which I love.

Anyway fast forward...I took Paul Carrick Brunson's advice and decided to give him a compliment I said “Your eyelashes are so long. Do you know I have to apply 3 coats of mascara to get what you naturally have” Can you fricking believe that? Why didn’t I just keep my mouth shut? What is wrong with me? As I looked to the floor searching for the little visible crack to try and disappear into, not before noticing how nice and clean his shoes were, his laugh and the words “Thank you” enabled me to look into his pretty eyes again without the shame. That broke the ice.

At the corner of my eye I could see Akua and Michelle signalling and mouthing words I couldn’t read. It was the repeated movement of putting a non existent phone to their ear that informed me they were egging me on to “Get his number”. They wanted to go home and intuitively new that speeding up this process was the way to do it. So as he was talking I cut over him to say... “Look, can I have your number?” Oh my God! how rude am I? There are nicer ways to ask, I don’t know what happened. I guess this is what pressure does. Men I will NEVER judge you for asking me for my number in this way AGAIN. I get it. It’s not intentional...by the majority.

He said yes and asked “Do you want the number or bb pin?” I am not used to choice. There has never been choice before. My brain said both and my mouth said pin. So I ended up with the latter, I kicked myself  but then decided to see what conversing in this way would be like, since this appears to be the preferred method by teenagers and young adults.

I wasn’t really waiting for a bus, but look two came at once.

BB exchanged and the pinging began. Morning, lunch, afternoon and night, I was smiling throughout the day due to the questions and flirting. It was different in a nice way but very distracting. We decided to meet this weekend. I had a chilled Saturday and was looking forward to the evening. We decided on the time but not place as he didn’t like my restaurant suggestion (bloody cheek).
Anyway I was adding new apps to my phone and a password. Everything was great until I logged back in and my phone was telling me my password was incorrect, even though it was correct. Fourth attempt and STRIKE...my phone wiped everything. EVERYTHING. I last backed up early October so I managed to sync everything again, everything except his bb pin!
My phone didnt even say this. It just went straight for the wipe
Oh well. I clearly didn't catch that bus very well.
So I can conclude that 21st century dating has its pro’s and cons. Recommendations are the way forward. I am not saying I want anyone to arrange a marriage for me, but I now see the value in the essence of suggesting potential partners. Friends with single men...send in your suggestions, this is an underrated experience. This way also had a courting vibe about it which was respectful and cute. Two people in the same situation open to the possibilities. I would definitely recommend this.

Had my friends not rushed me, I think I would have waited a little longer to see if he would have asked me for mine details, before asking. However I have no problem with being forward. I quite liked it. The BB way of doing things has its benefits, i.e. I am not getting charged, we are in a recession don’t you know (joke) though it felt alien and lazy. I like to hear the voice at the other end of a phone and where are the boundaries? You wouldn’t call or email someone that many times in a day, so why is this okay on BB? There are different rules and I’m not sure what they are or even if I want to know. I may ask my brother to educate me anyway (Never thought I would say that). Both ways of interacting were interesting but the lesson that stands out the most is...

Never relay on digital devices. Before technology ruled the world asking for their full name and  phone number was a basic requirement. Oh how times have changed.

So as I finish this sentence I am  left wondering if Mr B has sent a few messages that have been delivered but not received. Will he know to re-add me again? or is he wondering why none of his messages are getting read? Did he even send anymore messages? If not the whole point of me wondering is a pointless act.

I will update you if Mr B finds me again! Ohhh the suspense eh? Ha Ha. The trials and tribulations of dating!

SOTW - Threepeats

This weeks Shop of the week, Threepeats , is owned and run by the lovely Suzanne. In her shop you will find beautiful handmade necklaces and dangle earrings (for pierced ears). Her beautiful pieces are perfect for women of all ages who like vintage materials put together in a modern way.
Each of her necklaces and pairs of earnings is unique, OOAK (one- of-a-kind ), and eco-friendly. They are also eco and earth-friendly because she uses recycled t-shirt yarn, felted wool beads and vintage ribbons. She creates pieces that are casual and affordable but look more expensive.
Suzanne is a veteran member of the Etsy twitter team and her advice to new twitter members is to "have conversations with the people you follow. Check out their items, links and photos and let them know what you think".

I love to ask our members who their favorite artis are and why. Here is what Suzanne told me: "I like black and white photography. There is something very essential and eternal about it..so Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams and Margaret Bourk-White all come to mind"

Special in Threepeats shop this week:
"I will be having an "earring clearing"-
All pairs of earrings in the shop will be on sale for just $5/pr (regularly $7-$9)
Prices will be marked down so coupon code are not necessary.

Afrikan Yoga- review

Thanks to Phenomenal Healthstyle I recently attended my first session in Afrikan Yoga with Pablo Imani. I didn’t know what to expect but I was excited and open minded. As I walked in Pablo invited me to lie down and place my legs on the wall and slowly open them into straddle splits. I cannot touch my toes and I can no longer do the splits so this exercise right here  revealed how tight and rigid I actually was, a shameful acknowledgement for an ex dancer. I was then instructed to breathe in and out and slowly my legs went further and further as I relaxed into the breath, giving a nice stretch.  However this only happened once my breathing was rectified by Pablo.
   Example of Straddle wall spilts
Breathing is the most natural and important thing as a human being and here I am doing it wrong. When you breathe in, the diaphragm is filled and your stomach pushes out and on the exhale, the diaphragm flattens as the air is expelled, as this diagram demonstrates
I can’t explain what I do, but I don’t do that. I used to be a dancer and I have been trained to hold a particular posture, which involves standing tall and sucking in, Pablo’s technique of breathing reveals the shocking revelation that I have a muffin top! Vanity aside, I have spent the last 27 years of my life not breathing correctly.

Breathing goes beyond a life-sustaining automation. It is among the most simple and important tools we can use to change our mood and raise awareness. Many spiritualists believe that through deep breathing and meditating  you gain a more connected sense of your self, connection with God, insight and clarity. I need to become aware of my bad breathing patterns and consciously change it within each moment, until it becomes natural and beneficial on a holistic level.

The movements were accompanied by the live sound of the Afrikan drum, the smell of incense and the vibration of affirmations. This type of yoga truly resonates with me as I understand the importance of energy, vibrations and words. The whole experience was just what my mind, body and spirit needed. After the session I felt relaxed, energised and awake. Everything felt awake and that night I dreamt a vivid yet surreal dream that could have come straight out of a Salvador Dali painting. The gym is not enough for me, my body needs this as a balance.
After the class I spoke to Pablo and asked him a few questions
What is Afrikan Yoga?
P:Afrikan Yoga is a brand of Yoga founded by myself Pablo Imani it's foundation is based in Ancient Africa and it's philosophical bases are on the ancient African principles of Maat found in the oldest books in the world. These principles are now found in the Buddhist concepts of Dharma and the Yoga sutras of Patanjali. The postures can be found on the Ancient temple walls of Egypt and is still very relevant today for healing and stress reduction.
How does it differ from other styles?
P: Afrikan Yoga is different from other styles because of it's emphasis on the breath, elements and flowing motion that is characterised in African dance. It really allows one to experience a sense of freedom that is not forced. This particular style promotes naturalness, flexibility calmness, focus, bodily awareness that assists in the management of stress and enhance the nervous system to deal with dis-ease.
In which ways does this technique benefit those who are of African descent?
P: Afrikan Yoga benefits all people as I have had people from all over the world in my classes, often after a session I am approached by participants filled with surprise at it's simplicity  telling me what it's done for them. For those of African descent Afrikan Yoga works on a psycho- spiritual and cellular level that goes much deeper than a few stretches because it creates a connection that would not be otherwise realised.
You use music, incense and affirmations within this technique, why?
P:The drum in Africa held great importance and had many uses; we recognise it mainly for celebration, communication and to provide African warriors the courage and vigour to go into battle. In the case of Afrikan Yoga practice it enthuses the spiritual warrior whose battle is with the lower self. The use of drums is a particular character of Afrikan Yoga as the drum in itself is therapeutic and healing, the drum reminds us of the rhythm and the cyclic nature of all life, the very first instrument we heard in the womb was the drum beat of our mothers heart beat.
The drum invokes nurturing and keeps us in time with ourselves; it carries a message to our innermost being it is a call to be whole. The use of incense is to cleanse the air of negativity and invite good vibrations to be present to our awakening to be present to our work on self and our re-connection. The affirmations work on the premise 'as a man thinketh so is he'.  Affirmations re-affirm our connection and attune the mind and body to the elements and the essence of the universe. I also use sticks, stretch bands, crystals and stones in the practice.

There is a strong spiritual element within your work. How would you describe who you are and your purpose through Afrikan Yoga?
P: I am often unsure how to answer this question because who I am is never fixed, in light of the work I am simply acting as a catalyst for change. My purpose through Afrikan Yoga is to present balance and to promote healing on the planet. I started what is called the Afrikan Yoga Literacy Project which provides yoga, meditation and reading for young people. I work with disadvantage children in Kampala Uganda many of whom do not read or have access to books that will further expand their minds and empower them. I am offering an opportunity for interested ones who would like to be involved to contact me more info is found on the Afrikan Yoga website.
I also provide Afrikan Yoga Safari Retreats with Geolodges Africa, the next one is April 3rd -9th 2012 which is to encourage those who wish to experience the beauty of  Africa, immersed in yogic practice while recharging in luxurious environment. I am open to all who wish to deepen their personal practice and to those wish to have a better understanding of this African technology called Afrikan Yoga.

2. Masukkan telur dan air. Aduk hingga merata dan uleni.

Langsung saja bila ingin mencoba silahkan download melalui link dibawah:

1. BBI-IMT Calculate (VB)
Dapat berjalan di Operating System: Windows XP, Vista, serta 7.

DOWNLOAD DISINI

2. BBI-IMT Calculate (VB Net)

Rumus:

Satuan Metrik menurut sistem satuan internasional : BMI = kilogram / meter2

Rumus : BMI = b / t2

Berikut adalah Cut Of Point-nya:

Berdasarkan Depkes RI
Kurus:
- Kekurangan BB tingkat berat = <17 - Kekurangan BB tingkat ringan = 17 - 18,4 Normal: - Normal = 18,5 - 25 Gemuk: - Kelebihan BB tingkat ringan = 25,1 - 27 - Kelebihan BB tingkat berat = >27

Berdasarkan WHO
- Underweight grade III = <16 - Underweight grade II = 16 - 16,9 - Underweight grade I = 17 - 18,4 - Underweight = 18,5 - 19,9 - Acceptable = 20 - 24,9 - Overweight = 25 - 29,9 - Obesity I = 30 - 34,9 - Obesity II = 35 - 39,9 - Obesity III = > 40

Pedoman Umum Gizi Seimbang

Untuk menanggulangi masalah gizi maka Negara menyusun PUGS (Pedoman Umum Gizi Seimbang) yang memuat 13 Pesan Dasar Gizi seimbang. 13 pesan tsb adalah sbb:

a. Makanlah aneka ragam makanan.

Stamps from the African Diaspora

Last night I went to Stanley Gibbons, the home of the world’s leading stamp emporium to attend Jon Daniel's' exhibition of Post Colonial: Stamps from the African Diaspora, in celebration of Black History Month. The collection, originally inspired by the lyrics of Public enemy's 'Fight the Power', is a visual  acknowledgement of the contributions, influences and impact many have made across the world, whilst citing their birth place.

From afar the backdrop looks like a colourful mosaic, up close it is a miniature but detailed piece of art that is powerful as stand alone pieces and as a collective. The longer I looked at it, the more I found. I definitely have a new sense of appreciated for stamps.

The exhibition celebrates Mary Seacole, Aretha Franklin, Sojourner truth and many many more both widely known and unknown. It is the latter which makes this exhibition special, as thought, research and time has been given to extend beyond current knowledge. The exhibition also highlights the world’s first stamps depicting black historical figures, stamps best by design, the rare and valuable stamps and autographed pictures. Simon Woolley from Operation Black Vote captures the emotive essence of the exhibition when he said "Black culture and a sense of justice beautifully scream through."

Jon Daniel’s passion is evident through the collection and I spoke to him to capture his voice.
What was your drive/motivation in deciding to put this exhibition on?
To promote the rich historical legacy of African Diaspora people. To produce an event of genuine quality that resonates with all audiences. To ensure the ingenuity and innovation of works by people of African Diaspora heritage is rightfully recognised by the art, design and visual communications establishment.

Have you always been interested in stamps?
Yes. As someone who has always been interested in art, design and all manner of visual communication, you cannot help but be captivated by the intrinsic beauty and craftsmanship of a well designed stamp.

How long did it take to put this together?
From the idea in my head to the realisation of the final exhibition, its been about 8 weeks, which is incredibly fast. In that time we have curated and sourced all the stamps, created all the exhibition graphics and supporting materials, built the online environment, created a graphic animated promo with a bespoke original music soundtrack, and planned a launch event.

It is a testament to the quality of the team and how being able to move quickly and unimpeded by lengthy decision-making processes, can achieve wonders.

What was the process?
My first call was actually to Creative Review magazine as I figured it was a good idea to see if I could get them to publish a selection of stamps in their exclusive subscriber publication, Monograph.

After that I decided to see how I could get an exhibition up and running. Once i had the idea of contacting Stanley Gibbons, it was just a matter of building a proposal to convince them of the strength and validity of my idea. The collection, originally inspired by the lyrics of Public Enemy's 'Fight The power', features in the October edition of Creative Review's exclusive publication, Monograph.

Incredibly, the two separate entities came together seamlessly to make for a strong platform which to build. I then sounded out the key people I wanted to work with me on the project and once I got the go-ahead we sprung into action.

How important is the acknowledgement and knowledge of our history in the present day?
Absolutely vital. For me, knowing our true history underpins everything. How we view each other and our place in this world. In truth there is no such thing as Black History. Its all our history.

What do you hope people take away from the exhibition?
A greater sense of the historical contribution made by people from the African Diaspora to our society. The sheer diversity of countries and cultures who have celebrated them and  an enthusiasm to dig deeper and unearth more historical treasures that enrich our global culture and enlighten our minds.

The exhibition runs from the 1st-29th October so there is plenty of time to pop in.
