SOTW - HoneyFromTheBee

Tweet tweet!! I love this bird that is made by HoneyFromTheBee owned and operated by our fellow twitter member Janet. Janet makes lovely Earrings, Brooches, Bracelets, Pendants and Necklaces. When she isn't making her latest creation she is tweeting her fellow Etsy twitter team members or making darling collections in the etsy treasuries.

This isn't your typical etsy shop where the shop owner target their items towards a certain "crowd". Janet told me she makes her items with this thought in mind "I just create what makes me happy. I strive for something beautiful and interesting to wear. I have customers that range from 20 to 75 years of age, so I guess there's something for everyone! What I hear from customers often is that they feel I've created a piece just for them... that I somehow created their story. I love that. It may not even be the story I was trying to tell, that's the cool part!"

Janet has an eye for style and color and shows this in every one of her pieces of work. "Most of my pieces are one of a kind. This is because when I create a piece I'm expressing a feeling or thoughts and once expressed I'm ready to move on. I love gemstones for color and pattern. I love metals like silver, copper, brass and bronze for how I can manipulate it into a wearble piece of art. I love incorporating found objects and vintage parts for the patina and stories they have within them. Quality means a lot to me. It's in my nature to do so, but it's also because it's what annoys me most about the products for sale in many stores today. I take care to insure you'll get lots of wear out of the piece that spoke to you and it will have value to another some day down the road, too."

We have been asking all the members to tell us about who influences them and why. Janet shared with us "This a difficult one, because I love learning new things and have been fortunate to have access to various venues the last 10 years to take classes from wonderful teachers in the jewelry field. I think the classes that have had the most influence on my work though have been outside the jewelry field. Stepping out of my comfort zone or box and taking a plaster and painting class by Stephanie Lee and several assemblage classes by Michael deMeng had me in a much different space which I feel has helped me grow much faster creatively than if I'd just taken another technique class."
